Dear Helmet,
You have become a special friend of our family, and you will be missed tremendously. Though it is difficult to see you go, we know it is for the best. Thank you for all of the therapy you have given by rounding out Luke's head. Thank you for the countless times you saved Luke's head during falls & other common 1yr old experiences. We love you!
love,
our crew
When the doctor said it was time to take the helmet off, we asked if we could keep it on him for 3 additional weeks. He was just learning to walk, and we knew it would come in handy. We were right. Now it is good-bye forever.

10 happy thoughts:
I love that you wanted to keep in on an additional 3 weeks. When the doctor told us that Caroline's body cast could come off 2 weeks early, they couldn't cut it off fast enough for me!!!!! Okay, not exactly the same thing:)
I'm glad you get to say goodbye to it. It amazes me how many people think that the helmet is for kids learning to walk so that they don't hurt themselves. I'm guessing you validated their thinking. :)
Luke looks so dang cute! I can't believe how much he looks like your side of the family!
The apple fest looks like it was a lot of fun! Glad you had such a great weekend!
The golden arches-- totally suprises me to think you haven't been there, but I don't blame you, I don't love that place at all. We actually have a friend whos little girl calls it the ghetto and doesn't ever want to go there!
How cute is that picture of Luke! I, for one, will miss the helmet. It would come in handy when my son comes over to play. We had fun!
I'm so jealous. I think I'll be ready to shelf Abby's helmet as soon as they give me the word. Although, I must say - she just started walking this weekend and it has already saved her a few bonks on the noggin. We still have awhile to go so she'll be walking fine when it comes off for good. Luke is such a doll - I love the photo!
I just want to tell you that your kids are sooooo cute!! Bryn rode in our truck the other day for Joy School and we were having a blast singing and dancing. I am so glad that you guys are in Joy School!! Lukas is adorable. Pretty soon you will have another helmet for him for all the fun of skateboarding, snowboarding, motorbiking.........
Jami
Glad that it did its job!! I am sure it won't be the last helmet he will wear...with a dad like Mitch - he will be wearing plenty of Xtreme sports helmets!!
My nephew also wears the "helmet." Once he took it off for a few minutes to air out his head and ended up with two bruises and a scratch on his face. I think all kids should wear these when they're learning to walk.
Hey Katie! It's Stephanie. My daughter had to wear a mask on her face (like the basketball players)for 6 months and although at the time we didn't love it, she actually missed it when she was done. It's amazing how well little kids adapt to things. You're little guy is so cute!
